5-Minute Tomato Sauce with Whole Grain Pasta

  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 3 cloves finely chopped garlic
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper
  • 28 oz. can crushed or diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 zested lemon (optional)
  • 8 oz. whole grain pasta per serving


  • Combine the olive oil, red pepper flakes and garlic in a cold saucepan.
  • Stir while you heat the saucepan over medium-high heat, sauté just 45 seconds.
  • Stir in the tomatoes and heat to a gentle simmer.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in the lemon zest reserving a bit to sprinkle on top of your pasta.
  • Dash of salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook whole grain pasta as directed and serve with sauce.


The possibilities are endless with this recipe. Serve immediately with any meal of your liking or save for later by freezing.
