Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. canola oil
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels

Sweet Popcorn Seasoning:

  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Spicy Popcorn Seasoning:

  • ground cumin
  • chili powder
  • nutritional yeast
  • yellow curry powder

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan with lid, heat canola oil over medium-high heat. Add two kernels of popcorn and place the lid on the pan.
  • After the two kernels pop, add the remaining kernels and quickly stir. Replace the lid.
  • When the kernels start popping, lift the lid for just a second to release steam, then quickly replace it. Repeat until you no longer hear popping sounds.
  • When the popcorn is done, immediately (but carefully) pour it into a large bowl to avoid burning. Season as desired.

GREAT ADDITIONS/SUBSTITUTIONS
For a spicy flavor, season with ground cumin and low-salt chili powder, nutritional yeast or yellow curry powder.
For a sweet treat, mix two teaspoons of white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon into the oil before adding the kernels.
