Ingredients

  • ½ cup dried hibiscus flowers (or 4 hibiscus tea bags)
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 large handful fresh mint leaves (about ½ cup, loosely packed)
  • ¼ to ⅓ cup honey or agave syrup (to taste)
  • 1/2 lime or lemon, juiced (optional)

Instructions

  • Bring 6 cups of water to a boil.
  • Remove from heat, then add hibiscus flowers and mint leaves. Cover and let steep for 15-20 minutes.
  • Strain out the hibiscus and mint using a mesh strainer or slotted spoon.
  • Stir in honey or agave while still warm. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • Serve hot or let cool and refrigerate. Serve over ice with a sprig of mint or a lime wedge if desired.

Notes

Dried hibiscus flowers are available in bulk at most Mexican food stores.
